Now that you've determined exactly what you're going to feed the squirrels, it's time to start preparing the actual plots of land (called "pies") for their introduction.
Since you want to encourage burrowing activities as much as possible - these will provide possible homes for the owls! - you decide to...
A) dig 10-feet holes in the ground (caging the underground area within a ~25-50 feet radius), and then cover it with a large cage. This will provide ample cover for the squirrels under ground, but at the same time, will encourage them burrow more. The underground cage will keep released squirrels close enough on the Pie for convenient radio tracking, too!
B) install cages on top of the ground. That way, you observe the squirrels most of the time. The squirrels might not like it when you begin the burrows for them. Let them do their own thing!C) just release them. You have radio tags, right?
